Please advise. That is great that manufacturer is standing by their product! However, it is most probably the compressor may be leaking or out of gas as you describe that most the system is functional. However, it is quiet difficult to diagnose without inspection the dehumidifier. Unit was working. I shut it off 3 weeks ago. Today I pushed the start button and saw a flash where the power cord exits the unit lower back right bottom.
Took plastic cover off and inspected cord but no evidence of fraying. Whats going on? Hi Steve, I would recommend you follow our step by step guide above and test individual elements in order to diagnose the issue. I have a Honywell 30pint dehumidifier. Was working fine and now my start button flashes on and off and when l pull out the container that has no water l have a P2 on the display window and the full container button is lit red but the container is empty??
Hi James, sorry to hear. We have had tons of Honeywell that we tested and have been using them for about a year with out any trouble. It is hard to say what is wrong with your unit without actually seeing it. Based on what you are telling me it is possible that Refrigerant might have leaked but I have not personally seen that happen this early. Try contacting Honeywell customer service at sales honeywellstore. It is four years old. Removed covers, very clean, fan runs compressor runs but coils are not cool.
Any suggestions? It is possible that refrigerant may have leaked. This can only be tested by a professional with right equipment. I have had two of that model.
The first failed within the warranty and was replaced. The second one is now 4yrs old and has failed. Both related to leaking refrigerant and compressor failure.
No more GE products for me. I have been in San Antonio with a new one for 4 years now. The hygrometer on the wall still shows high humidity, too. What can I do? Somehow I missed your comment. Well from what you are describing it seems that the dehumidifier is functioning however, the rate of moisture withdrawal has slowed.
This can be due to various reasons, i. If the refrigerant is slowly leaking then you may want to contact Frigidaire and see if you still have warranty on this unit. If the temperature is too low than the humidity level, there'll be little to no extra moisture to the dehumidifier to accumulate.
For the first little while, after the dehumidifier was in operation, it probably accumulated a whole lot of moisture. This is because it gathered all of the excess water from the ceilings, walls, and things in the general region. After that has been done, all that's left for the dehumidifier is to maintain and regulate the amount of humidity.
There'll not be much humidity left in the atmosphere, so the dehumidifier may quit collecting water at some points. Certain kinds of dehumidifiers will need to be at a high enough temperature or stop operating correctly. Also, if the room temperature is too low, it's harder for the dehumidifier to reduce humidity from the air. There are various kinds of dehumidifiers that you can buy for basements and other spaces that are predicted to have lower temperatures.
These machines can function in temperatures that are approximately as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit. It may be the case in which you have purchased a dehumidifier that has a greater water removal capacity than you require. A few machines are designed to function for just a single room and a few purposes for the whole house. Those who have a more compact dehumidifier can remove about 30 pints of water each day.
For those who have a bigger one, it can remove more than 90 pints of water daily. Putting a sizable dehumidifier in a little room may lead to less water collection than you're expecting. It's not the case for small dehumidifiers in large areas; these will probably collect far more water than was expected. Sometimes, the dehumidifier runs but does not collect water. This means that there are many parts that could break down and stop the operation of the entire machine.
Below is a list of a few examples of parts that can break down and will need to be replaced if you want to keep using your dehumidifier. If the compressor has failed, you will likely hear a buzzing noise every once in awhile. When the compressor stops running, the humidity will rise, and moisture will not be collected. When the coils start leaking refrigerant out, it means you have a leak in the refrigeration system.
The coils will stop trapping the moisture when air flows through the machine. The condenser or filters may be clogged. Check to see if you can clean out any of the filters to free the air flow in the dehumidifier. If the humidistat is not functioning properly, it will show the incorrect humidity level of the area. Or it will not signal the dehumidifier to operate at a set humidity level.
You can try and troubleshoot this issue, or record the number of the part and get a replacement. When your dehumidifier stops collecting water, it may not necessarily be a bad thing. The best case scenario is that there is just not enough humidity in the air at that particular time.
To determine whether this is the case, you could wait for a day that brings more humidity than usual. Check if the dehumidifier starts operating normally again. It is our suggestion when buying a dehumidifier to purchase an extended warranty. Normal warranty length for dehumidifiers is 24 months or 2 years. You have seen that the compressor in compressor dehumidifiers can cause problems when it comes to your dehumidifier not collecting water.
If there is any problem with the compressor check your warranty. For both compressor and desiccant dehumidifiers always make sure that the filter and parts are kept clean and unblocked.
Not only does this enhance the life of your dehumidifier but it will also save you on running costs. Do you have any other dehumidifier problems? Let us know in the comments below and we will try our best to solve them. First off all though you need to know what type of dehumidifier you have. Compressor or Desiccant Dehumidifier There are two main types of dehumidifier — compressor and desiccant.
