Elders, although appointed Deacons to assist them for the special needs such as finance and management, were still responsible for overseeing the Church and its management entirely.
They inspired and guided the deacons to carry out the things in need so they could concentrate on their fundamental duty of preaching and teaching the Word of God. Although both Deacons and Elders are part of the Church offices, they have very different roles to play. The Elders are deemed spiritually mature than Deacons in the Church and they are appointed in reference to their different gifts and abilities required for their office.
The main difference between Deacons and Elders is that Deacons are appointed by the Elders to meet the practical needs of the church while Elders are appointed by the Church committee to lead the Church. Deacons look after all the practical needs such as seating arrangements, musical instruments, and other services whereas the Elders look after the spiritual well being of the congregation. Deacons also provide the church with services such as distributing the bulletins, looking after the need of the widows and poor, and taking care of the church building apart from the financial management while the Church Elders provide them with the required guidance and motivation.
The deacons are appointed to tend to such practical needs so that the Elders can continue their fundamental work of preaching and looking after the spiritual health of the seekers.
